Mahoney and Flores Lead Red Men to Edging the Lakers

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

- Two Red Men scored two goals each to earn the win

- Goalkeeper Andrew Ochoa made his collegiate debut


The Carthage College Men's Soccer Team (7-5-1, 1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) took a brief CCIW hiatus to host the Lakers of Silver Lake College. The Red Men would edge the team 4-3 on Friday night.


The Lakers began the scoring affair in the 6th minute with a goal by David Denis. The Lakers would score again in the 16th minute, after drawing Goalkeeper Andrew Ochoa out of the box to widen the shooting angle.


Richard Flores would kick off the scoring for the Red Men in the 33rd minute with an assist from Devin Wermuth on the outside. Flores would score again for the Red Men in 59th minute of the match.


Sahr Mahoney would kick off the Red Men offensive in the second half with a goal in the 55th minute with an assist from Wermuth and Flores. Mahoney would rally again for another goal unassisted in the 63rd minute of play.


The Lakers attempted a rally, however, as Weds Toussaint scored for the Lakers in the 68th minute. However, the Lakers would not get another scoring opportunity before the conclusion of the match.


The Red Men lead the offense in Shots and Shots on Goal with a 26 (14) - 6 (4) overall, and lead in Corner Kicks 14 - 1.


Freshman Goalkeeper Andrew Ochoa made his collegiate debut in the match, collecting one save and three goals against.


The Red Men return to Art Keller Field on Wednesday, October 11, to resume CCIW competition with a match against North Park University at 7:30 PM.
