The Carthage College Red Men (7-6-2, 1-2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), faced a testament to the challenges of the CCIW as they were faced with their second loss to conference rival Millikin University (4-8-1, 1-3 CCIW) 1-2.
Carthage set the tone in the first 10 minutes of the match, with a goal by Jerry Patino in the 8th minute of play. Despite the denial other scoring opportunities, the Red Men held onto the one goal lead heading into the second half.
The Big Blue would later retaliate with a goal in the 61st minute of the match by Dalton Gilbert.
Despite additional scoring opportunities by the Red Men, Conor Foley would seal the deal for the Big Blue as he scored a second goal in the 88th minute by a header off a throw in from Austin Taylor.
Offensively, the Red Men lead in Shots with 11-9, three of which came from Zach Schoffstall. Carthage also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Big Blue held the offensive advantage in Shots on Goal 8-6.
Brayan Arce Justiniano took on goaltending responsibilities, and finished the match with six saves - a shift into the Top Five for the Careers List (86 total saves).
The Red Men return to Art Keller Field for a CCIW contest against the Elmhurst College Bluejays. The Red Men will need an offensive spark to win the match and continue to hunt for a CCIW Post-Season Tournament Berth.
