First Half Goals Lead to Red Men Triumph Over Titans

The Carthage College Red Men (9-6-2, 3-2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) arrived in Bloomington, Ill. as the finale of a Carthage triple-header against Illinois Wesleyan University. Following defeats from Carthage Football, and the women's soccer team, the Red Men were able to triumph over the Illinois Wesleyan Titans (8-5-1, 3-2 CCIW) 2-1.
The win puts the Red Men fourth in the conference, behind North ark University, North Central College, and Wheaton College.
The Red Men started the offense quickly with a header goal by Johnny Rimkus with an assist from Adrian Herrera in the first 15 minutes. The Red Men would score their next goal off a header by Kevin Mahoney from Herrera and Esquivel in the 22nd minute. This would be Mahoney's second game winner goal, putting him in the lead for the 2017 season.
The Titans would answer with a goal of their own in the second half with a goal by Doug Ballard. The Titans would have multiple scoring opportunities, but the Carthage backline would deny each and every one.
The Red Men had the upper hand in Shots 15-9, but the Titans edged the Red Men with 6-5 Shots on Goal. The Red Men also showed statistical prowess over the Titans in Corner Kicks 6-2.
Brayan Arce Justiniano earned the win at the net collecting five saves in the match.
The Red Men return to Art Keller Field for an afternoon matchup with the St. Olaf College Oles Sunday, October 22nd.
