Early Scoring Leads to a Red Men Win Over Oles

- This marks the first time The Red Men have won against the Oles
Following an intense night cap in Bloomington, Ill., the Carthage College Red Men (10-6-2, 3-2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), triumphed over the visiting St. Olaf College Oles (3-12) at Art Keller Field on Sunday, Oct. 22nd.
The scoring began for the Red Men in the first five minutes of the match, as a pass from Kevin Penarrieta to Jorge Triana lead to a shot that angled off the post and towards the back of the net. Triana scored again two minutes later with an assist by Penarrieta this time with a ball that aimed right below the cross bar and out of for Oale goalie Ben Westermeyer.
After additional scoring attempts, and defensive effort by the Red Men, the Oles would slide past the Carthage backline for a goal by Folarin Bandele in the 30th minute of play.
The Red Men would respond again before halftime with a goal by Freddy Martinez coming off a pass from David Snooks in the 44th minute.
Carthage maintained offensive statistical prowess over the Oles with 20 Shots (11 Shots on Goal) to St Olaf's 6 Shots (3 Shots on Goal), and 8-1 in Corner Kicks.
Niko Mavrogiannis earned the win in goal collecting 1 Save, before handing off the torch to freshman goalie Andrew Ochoa who also collected 1 Save.
The Red Men return on the road Wednesday, Oct. 25th for a CCIW matchup against Carroll University. Although the Red Men are seated fourth in the conference, the match will still be crucial in order to solidify a spot in the CCIW Championship Tournament.
