Red Men Top Titans, Will Face North Park for CCIW Championship Title

The Carthage College Red Men (13-6-2, 5-2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans in overtime to advance to the CCIW Tournament Championship Title match.
Illinois Wesleyan began the scoring in the evening with a goal from Blake Tempel in the 42nd minute after the ball trickled in as the ball hit the goal post.
The Titans would lead the second half until Kevin Penarrieta's goal came past the Titan backline, off the crossbar after a failed clear in the 65th minute.
The Red Men would have two more opportunities to cushion the score in their favor, with penalty kicks. However, Illinois Wesleyan goalie Alex Ruckstaetter would make the crucial saves needed to keep the Titan's chances of victory a reality.
The Red Men would go back and forth forcing an overtime period upon the concluding 90 minutes. In the 97th minute, Freddy Martinez made a connecting pass to Luke Schoffstall which Schoffstall lifted past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the sudden death victory.
Brayan Arce Justiniano manded the net earning the win recording two saves.
The Championship match will take place Saturday, Nov. 4th versus #1 seeded North Park University at the Holmgren Athletic Center. The Vikings defeated #4 seeded North Central College on Wed., Nov. 1st.
This will be the fourth time in conference history that these two teams will face off against each other for the tournament title. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw during the regular season on October 11.
